Delhi Traffic Faces Severe Restrictions During INDIA Bloc Election Commission Protest March

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said INDIA bloc MPs would gather at Makar Dwar at 10:30 a.m. and then march peacefully from Parliament House to the Election Commission at 11 a.m.
Police established multiple layers of barricades around Vijay Chowk, while Rapid Action Force personnel were deployed near Akashvani ahead of the march.
The opposition protest was described as part of a broader “Save Democracy” campaign, including demonstrations and public programmes aimed at the Election Commission.
ABP Live reported that security had been stepped up at key points in New Delhi since Friday after protest calls from different organisations over the electoral-roll revision.
Delhi braced for traffic chaos Tuesday as the opposition INDIA bloc planned a march to challenge the Election Commission over alleged electoral irregularities. Business Standard reported that Delhi Traffic Police warned of diversions and barricades starting at 8 a.m. around Connaught Place, Parliament Street, and Jantar Mantar Road as hundreds of opposition MPs gathered to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said the march would begin at Parliament House at 11 a.m. after MPs assembled at Makar Dwar at 10:30 a.m. English Mathrubhumi reported that authorities deployed 4,000 security personnel and erected multiple barricades to manage the protest, which opposes the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Traffic Police advised commuters to avoid the affected zone entirely. The disruptions span six key areas: Connaught Place, Parliament Street, Patel Chowk, Ashoka Road, Jantar Mantar Road, and surrounding streets. Awaz The Voice reported that extra travel time should be expected throughout Tuesday morning and early afternoon.
Authorities urged people to use the metro or other public transit instead of cars. Those who must travel should check police directions at barricades and allow at least 30 extra minutes for their journeys. The advisory applies from 8 a.m. onward, with the heaviest congestion likely between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Police constructed multiple layers of barricades around Vijay Chowk and stationed Rapid Action Force personnel near Akashvani. Tribune India noted that security measures have been tightened across central Delhi since Friday, when various opposition groups called for protests. The heavy presence reflects official concern about crowd management.
The 4,000 deployed security personnel vastly outnumber the expected protesters. This show of force is meant to keep the march orderly and prevent any escalation. Officers have been instructed to ensure the protest remains peaceful while protecting public safety and infrastructure.
The INDIA bloc opposes what it calls irregularities in the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Newsable reported that opposition parties view the revision process as flawed and demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The march is part of a broader 'Save Democracy' campaign with demonstrations and public programs.
The protest reflects deeper tensions between the ruling government and opposition over election management. Opposition leaders say the electoral-roll revision will harm voter participation and electoral fairness. The march aims to pressure the Election Commission to halt the revision and replace its leadership.
