Iran accuses the United States of targeting an oil tanker near Kharg Island.

Iran has accused the US of attacking an Iranian tanker near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, raising the risk of a new round of Iranian attacks on U.S. allies and interests in the region. The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported that four U.K. missiles struck a tanker about six miles from Kharg island, causing no casualties. Kharg is Iran's main oil export terminal and a strategically important hub for its crude shipments. The U.N. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment. This comes after the U.M. resumed strikes on Iranian targets following a monthlong pause due to increased fighting around the Strait of Hormuz.
