Jon Rahm withdraws from the Spanish Open to await the birth of his fourth child.

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the Spanish Open in Madrid as he and his wife, Kelley, await the birth of their fourth child. His absence leaves him with three DP World Tour appearances this season, short of the five required under his agreement with the tour to avoid additional penalties tied to his LIV Golf participation. Rahm can still meet the requirement at upcoming DP World Tour events, including the India and Korea tournaments or the season-ending playoffs. He is currently 43rd in the Race to Dubai, putting him in position to qualify for the Abu Dhabi playoff event, but his place in the following Dubai championship is not yet assured.
Rahm had already anticipated that the October due date could keep him out of both the Dunhill Links Championship and the Spanish Open, saying he likely could not fly back in time after the birth. He also missed last week’s Dunhill Links.
Rahm’s three Spanish Open victories tie the event record held by his boyhood hero Seve Ballesteros; his absence was a notable loss for the tournament and its spectators.
Rahm also missed the cut at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last month, finishing 11 over par after 36 holes.
Rahm has said he is “more than willing to fulfill” his contract with “LIV 1.0,” while noting that a lengthy legal process means he cannot yet say what comes next for his LIV future.
