Trump Criticizes Smithsonian Museum Focus and Calls for George Washington Monuments

Trump has criticised the Smithsonian Institution for focusing more on the focus on oppression than those who have been oppressed, in an interview with Truth Social. He called for a five-year exhibition at the National Museum of American History, starting now and continuing through 2032, the 300th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Trump also called on the Smithsonian to install a 30-foot (9-m) 'Colossus statue" of Washington outside the museum and install an 11-foot statue of Washington at the recent Freedom 250 Grand Prix race in the museum's Flag Hall. He has ordered the installation of signs outside the Museum to reflect his administration's criticism. Critics and civil rights advocates have criticized these steps, arguing they could reverse social progress and undermine the acknowledgement of critical periods of U.S. history.
