RBI Mandates Daily Online Bulk Deposit Rate Disclosures Starting October

From October 1, 2026, banks in India will have to publish applicable rates for bulk fixed deposits—generally deposits of ₹3 crore or more—on their websites each working day by 10 a.m., with a 10-minute window for updates. Banks must honor the rates they disclose and offer the same rate across branches for comparable bulk deposits booked on the same day. The rules aim to improve transparency and consistency while allowing banks to offer rate differences where permitted under liquidity requirements, including the Liquidity Coverage Ratio framework.
The Financial Express says the revised directions cover commercial, small finance, regional rural, payment, local area and urban cooperative banks; it also says deposits below ₹3 crore are outside the new bulk-deposit requirements.
The Financial Express describes the LCR-based pricing distinction in terms of how “sticky” a deposit is: banks may price bulk deposits differently according to their applicable run-off rates, rewarding more stable funding.
The Hindustan Times notes that the practical effect of publishing rates online is that depositors can check the applicable rate themselves rather than relying solely on a quote from an individual branch.
