Former England Footballer Andy Carroll Identifies Convicted Dance Coach Kevin Adams

Carroll said Adams had invited himself over to watch a boxing match and mixed drinks for him; Carroll began to feel light-headed and suspected Adams had put something in his drink.
Carroll described Adams as an acquaintance of his then-partner and said he had felt Adams’s interest in him went beyond friendship; he said Adams repeatedly asked them to go out and even bought him clothes.
Adams had run the Kevin Adams Academy, a children's dance school in Harlow, Essex, which appeared to have stopped operating in 2022.
In sentencing Adams, Judge Mary Loram said his account was an “unbelievable tale” and that he appeared to have “started to believe [his] own lies”; she said she could not see a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
Former England footballer Andy Carroll has publicly identified dance coach Kevin Adams as the man who sexually assaulted him at his home in 2019 after a Newcastle United match. Mirror reported that Adams, who appeared on BBC's Fame Academy, was convicted at Chelmsfield Crown Court in 2023 and sentenced to 20 months in prison. Carroll described the assault and legal process as deeply humiliating and has asked the public to stop circulating images of Adams alongside him.
The conviction was striking for Judge Mary Loram's sharp rejection of Adams's defense. She called his account an "unbelievable tale" and said he appeared to have "started to believe [his] own lies." According to Daily Star, Adams's photograph and profile remained on BBC websites years after his 2023 conviction, continuing to promote dance content.
Carroll said Adams had invited himself to watch a boxing match at Carroll's home. Nogomania reported that Carroll began to feel light-headed and suspected Adams had put something in his drink. Carroll woke to find Adams assaulting him, threw him out, and immediately contacted police.
Carroll described Adams as an acquaintance of his then-partner and noted that Adams's interest seemed to go beyond friendship. Adams repeatedly asked them to go out together and even bought Carroll clothes. The footballer said the assault and court battle had a profound impact on him and his loved ones.
Adams ran the Kevin Adams Academy, a children's dance school in Harlow, Essex. Examiner Live reported the school appeared to have stopped operating in 2022. Adams had also gained television exposure as a dance coach on BBC talent shows, including Fame Academy, before his conviction.
At sentencing, Judge Mary Loram delivered a scathing rejection of Adams's version of events. She stated his account was an "unbelievable tale" and suggested he had begun to believe his own false story. The judge imposed additional restrictions beyond the 20-month prison sentence.
Most significantly, Judge Loram said she could not see a realistic prospect of rehabilitation for Adams. Her words underscored the severity of the crime and the court's assessment of his character and credibility.
A major concern emerged after Adams's 2023 conviction: his photograph and profile remained on BBC websites, still being used to promote dance content. Daily Star reported that Adams was still credited on BBC platforms in connection with "dirty dancing" programming, despite his criminal conviction.
Carroll has made a direct appeal to the public and media to stop circulating images of Adams alongside him. He emphasized the importance of moving forward without continued association with his attacker.
