Mercedes-AMG Unveils 646-HP CLE, Limited to 30

The CLE 646 is the second model in Mercedes-Benz’s Mythos series, following the AMG PureSpeed, and Mercedes-AMG says all 30 cars had been spoken for before its public debut.
Its V8 uses a flat-plane crankshaft to reduce rotating mass and sharpen throttle response; peak torque of 850 Nm is available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm.
For sustained high-load driving, AMG fitted three separate cooling circuits, including dedicated low-temperature circuits for the charge air, transmission oil and 48-volt electrical components.
The coupe has a body widened by 60 mm at both the front and rear, along with newly developed coil-over suspension and extensively engineered aerodynamic components, including an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing.
Mercedes-AMG management board chairman Stefan Weckbach described the project as one in which “a group of very rational engineers dreamt of a very irrational car,” saying the result delivered “maximum driving dynamics and an unparalleled driving experience.”
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, an ultra-rare performance coupe that pushes the limits of road-legal engineering. The car pairs a 646-horsepower twin-turbo V8 with lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork and track-focused suspension, achieving a 0-to-62-mph time of 3.9 seconds. Only 30 examples will be built, and Mercedes-AMG says the entire allocation has already been claimed before the car's public debut.
The heart of the CLE 646 is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 646 PS (646 horsepower) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. Mercedes-AMG engineered the engine with a flat-plane crankshaft to cut rotating mass and sharpen throttle response. Peak torque is available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm, and power flows exclusively to the rear wheels through a nine-speed transmission. The car claims a top speed around 193 mph.
Weight reduction is central to the CLE 646's design. The coupe features extensive carbon-fiber bodywork, polycarbonate windows, and a titanium Akrapovič exhaust system. Mercedes-AMG stripped out the rear seats to cut mass further and fitted three separate cooling circuits to handle sustained high-load driving. These circuits cool the charge air, transmission oil, and the 48-volt electrical components independently, ensuring reliability during extreme use.
The body has been widened by 60 mm at both front and rear to accommodate wider tires and improve stability. Mercedes-AMG developed an entirely new coil-over suspension system and engineered extensive aerodynamic components, including an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing. Racing equipment throughout the chassis emphasizes handling sharpness and driver feedback over comfort.
The CLE 646 is the second model in Mercedes-Benz's Mythos Series, following the AMG PureSpeed. Mercedes-AMG management board chairman Stefan Weckbach said the project brought together "a group of very rational engineers" who "dreamt of a very irrational car," delivering "maximum driving dynamics and an unparalleled driving experience." Pricing remains undisclosed, but the car is expected to cost substantially more than the standard CLE 53.
