Republican Convention Focuses on Donald Trump and Socialism Attacks for Midterms

The Republican National Committee (RNC) held its first-ever midterms convention in Dallas, Texas, aimed to brand the Democrats as extreme in an attempt to revitalize their fortunes. The party's focus was on President Donald Trump, who urged supporters to protect his majorities in Congress and offered a $5,000 dividend to every adult American if Republicans maintain control of Congress if Republicans retain control of the House. The convention, dubbed "Trumpapalooza," featured a high-production commercial for the party and speeches from speakers who called Democrats socialists, communists and extremists. The GOP has been arguing for months that Democrats are too far left, while Trump has indicated he plans to be prominent on the campaign trail despite a low approval rating. Despite these efforts, Democrats countered by saying the GOP is obsessed with socialism and failing to address key issues such as consumer costs.
