India's Esha Singh Wins Asian Games Silver in Tense Pistol Final

India’s Esha Singh won silver in the women’s 25-meter pistol final at the Asian Games after a tense contest with China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan. The two finished the final tied on 38 hits, and Xiao secured gold in the deciding shoot-off, edging Singh by one hit. Singh also had to outlast North Korea’s Kim Hyon Suk in multiple shoot-offs to claim silver, while Kim took bronze. The result gave Singh her second consecutive Asian Games podium in the event.
Esha Singh, described as the reigning world number one, scored 580 in qualification before the final.
China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan entered the final with a notable record: she was a 2021 Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist and a 2022 world champion.
Singh opened the final with a perfect five hits from five, then scored four of five in the next series to maintain the early lead.
Singh’s silver brought India’s total at the ongoing Games to 39 medals: four golds, 17 silvers and 18 bronzes.
