South Korean Director Lee Chang-dong Returns to Venice with New Labour Drama

South Korean director Lee Chang-dong has returned to the big screen after an eight-year hiatus after an 8-year absence from directing, with "Possible Love" (Ga-neung-han sa-rang) in competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in Venice, Italy. The film, inspired by real events, traces the consequences of mass layoffs at a major South Korean conglomerate in 2009 that left many workers traumatised. The director's last film, "Burning", was released in 2018 and he reflected on his responsibilities as a filmmaker. The movie follows two couples whose lives intersect during the production of a film about the laid-off workers. It is nominated for the Oscars and is one of 21 movies competing for Venice's Golden Lion.
