Willetton opens the Under-14 Club Championships with decisive victories in both divisions.

Willetton opened the Basketball Australia Under-14 Club Championships with decisive wins in both divisions: the boys beat Norths Bears 97-67, while the girls defeated Sydney Comets 72-42. After a competitive first half in the girls’ game, the Tigers pulled away in the final quarter, outscoring Sydney 27-7. Willetton is hosting the championships for the second consecutive year.
Willetton’s boys entered the championships with Logan Read, Luke Kelley and Kaden Ogle among the players to watch; Read had ranked third in total points in the WA Basketball League season, when the Tigers were eliminated in the semifinals.
Norths Bears’ players highlighted ahead of the boys’ matchup included Rowan Tandog, Austin Leung and Liam Amendolia.
Both Willetton and Sydney Comets’ girls had reached their respective state grand finals before the tournament, but each fell short in the final.
The championships’ games were set to be streamed exclusively on KommunityTV, with the opening-night coverage scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. AWST (7:30 p.m. AEST).
