Gnar Henderson's tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning gave the Baltimore Orioles a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets. The win lifts the Orioles to within three games of Cleveland for the last American League wild card. Despite Pete Alonso being hitless in his return to Citi Field, Henderson's homer helped the Orioles extend their lead to 2-0. The Mets were eliminated from playoff contention after starting the season with a record payroll of $358.4 million. A.J. Ewing also scored a home run for the Mets, giving them 11 players with at least 10 home runs for the first time in club history. Orioles right-hander Brandon Young allowed one run in five innings and limited the Mets to one hit in 10 at-bats.
