Bloober Team Announces Onyx: The Dark Grip as a Switch 2 Exclusive

The game was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation.
Bloober Team has not announced a specific release window within 2027.
The touchscreen gameplay includes tapping switches that are out of reach and examining the inner workings of non-player characters’ minds.
Onyx: The Dark Grip marks Bloober Team’s return to smaller-scope development after several years focused on larger projects such as the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos: The New Dawn.
Bloober Team is also developing the Lazarus expansion for Cronos: The New Dawn, a remake of the original Silent Hill and several other undisclosed projects.
Bloober Team unveiled Onyx: The Dark Grip, a supernatural horror game built exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation. The 2.5D game launches in 2027 and can only be played in handheld mode, using the console's touchscreen and tilt controls as core gameplay mechanics Bloody Disgusting.
Players control Holden, a man drawn to a fog-shrouded town by a mysterious voice. He investigates eerie locations and reads the minds of townspeople to uncover secrets. The game marks Bloober Team's shift back to smaller-scope projects after years developing larger titles like the Silent Hill 2 Remake Player One.
Onyx uses the Switch 2's touchscreen as its primary interaction method. Players tap switches out of reach and examine the inner workings of characters' minds through direct contact Checkpoint Gaming. This design choice ties the game exclusively to handheld play — docked mode is not supported.
The tilt controls add another layer to exploration and object interaction. Every mechanic reinforces the handheld-only philosophy, making it impossible to play the game on a TV. This constraint forces developers to rethink traditional horror design for a portable screen Final Weapon.
Onyx represents a strategic pivot for Bloober Team. The studio spent recent years on ambitious titles like the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos: The New Dawn. This horror exclusive lets them explore tighter, more focused game design Bloody Disgusting.
Despite this smaller scope, Bloober remains busy. The team continues developing the Lazarus expansion for Cronos: The New Dawn, a Silent Hill remake, and several unannounced projects. Onyx exists alongside these larger efforts Player One.
Nintendo secured Onyx as a console exclusive, making it available only on Switch 2. No PC, PlayStation, or Xbox versions are planned Monster Vine. This exclusivity arrangement is unusual for Bloober, who typically releases games across multiple platforms.
The partnership shows Nintendo's confidence in attracting horror fans to Switch 2's launch window. A specific 2027 release date within the year has not been announced Player One.
