Green Bay Packers Sign Veteran Offensive Lineman Mekhi Becton to Boost Depth

The Green Bay Packers signed veteran offensive lineman Mekhi Becton after working him out, adding depth to a line they have been reinforcing. Becton was Philadelphia’s right guard during its Super Bowl-winning 2024 season, then joined the Los Angeles Chargers, where he started 14 games before being released. The Pittsburgh Steelers also showed interest, but Becton chose Green Bay. His injury history and difficult season in Los Angeles tempered interest, while the Eagles did not reportedly pursue a reunion despite questions about their interior line and calls from fans to bring him back.
A report cited by Bleeding Green Nation said the Eagles had been told Becton had “returned to many of his former ways,” including firing the agency that had helped get his game back on track—developments that reportedly raised red flags and disappointed the team.
Becton was a first-round pick by the New York Jets in 2020 and missed all but one game across the 2021 and 2022 seasons because of injuries.
Becton can play both guard and tackle: he began his NFL career at tackle with the Jets, shifted to right guard in Philadelphia, and could offer Green Bay flexibility across the line.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Becton was healthy when Green Bay brought him in for his workout.
The Packers had already signed guard Laken Tomlinson after losing to the Falcons, and Becton’s workout indicated the team could still be looking to add offensive-line options.
