Two US Brothers Charged in $1.7 Million Hamas Fundraising Scheme

Two Louisiana brothers, Abdel and Omar Adhami, are facing terrorism charges for their alleged involvement in a $1.7M fundraising scheme to fund Hamas under the guise of Gaza humanitarian aid. The scheme was uncovered with the help of the New York Police Department (NYPD). Abdel allegedly funneled over $83,000 to Hamas from 2023 to 2026, while his brother is accused of sending $6,000. Since 2020, the operation has reportedly raised at least $1 million for Hamas. The fundraising scheme began when Saleem Alzaq, a member of Hamas, inadvertently contacted an undercover NYPD detective via SnapChat. Both Abdel and his brother are accused of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and wire fraud. Alzaqu is also charged with conspiracy to provide material support for Hamas, violating the international emergency economic powers act, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and defraud the United States.
