Rebuilt Vizianagaram Temple Aims to Ease Crowding for Upcoming Sirimanotsavam Festival

The temple was originally built in 1757.
The Endowments Department acquired 218 square yards of private land next to the temple to create additional facilities for devotees.
Special prayers were held at the Pandiri Rata on the temple premises on October 1, marking the start of the Sirimanotsavam festivities.
Temple authorities said devotees would be able to remain on the premises after darshan, while work on the adjacent site was expected to be completed soon.
A rebuilt Pydithalli Ammavaru Temple in Vizianagaram is ready to welcome more than 200,000 devotees for the annual Sirimanotsavam festival starting October 26. The Endowments Department spent about ₹1.8 crore reconstructing the temple and acquiring adjacent land to ease crowding and expand facilities like prasadam counters.
The temple originally dates to 1757. Special prayers held on October 1 marked the start of festivities, with the main Sirimanotsavam celebration set for October 27. Temple authorities say devotees can now stay on the premises after prayers while new facilities are being completed nearby.
The reconstruction project addressed years of crowding at this centuries-old shrine. Local authorities acquired 218 square yards of private land next to the temple to create breathing room for the expected two-day festival. The expansion includes dedicated prasadam serving areas and wider queue pathways to reduce bottlenecks.
Sirimanotsavam draws massive crowds each year. The festival begins with Tholellu prayers on October 26, with the main celebration on October 27. Temple management estimates more than 200,000 worshippers will arrive across the two-day period, making the expanded facilities essential for handling the surge.
Work on the adjacent site is expected to wrap up soon, according to temple authorities. Devotees will now be permitted to remain on temple grounds after completing their prayers and rituals, rather than being asked to leave immediately. This change alone should help manage the flow during peak worship hours.
