France Records Its Hottest and Driest Summer Since Measurements Began Over a Century Ago

France recorded its hottest summer since measurements began over a century ago, according to Environment Minister Monique Barbut. Firefighters battled wildfires throughout the summer, even in normally cooler regions in the north and Brittany, as France experienced one of its driest years ever. A historic fire near Bordeaux, which destroyed forests and forced a quarter of a million people to evacuate, led to one of France's driest summers ever. Barbut stated that it was the hottest summer ever recorded since measurements started in 1900.
