An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed multiple times in the neck and leg during a robbery attempt Friday afternoon in the Bronx's Norwood neighborhood. FOX 5 NY reported the detective, assigned to the 44th Precinct, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and is expected to survive. Two male suspects fled the scene on e-bikes.
The attack occurred around 1:40 to 1:45 p.m. near East 206th Street and Rochambeau Avenue. News 4 San Antonio reported the suspects are believed to be Hispanic. No arrests have been made, and it remains unclear what, if anything, was stolen from the detective.
The detective was stabbed and slashed multiple times during the attack in Norwood. WLOS reported the injuries occurred to the detective's neck and leg during an attempted robbery. The officer was conscious and alert when taken to the hospital, with doctors expecting a full recovery.
Law enforcement sources described the two suspects as male and believed to be Hispanic. FOX 11 Online said both fled the scene on e-bikes. The NYPD has not released detailed descriptions of either suspect beyond their apparent race and method of escape. No vehicle was involved in the getaway.
The detective has served with the NYPD since July 2016 and works out of the 44th Precinct in the Norwood section of the Bronx. WCHS TV reported the precinct covers one of New York's busiest neighborhoods. The attack highlights the risks off-duty officers face when not actively on patrol or wearing a uniform.
