Carson Hocevar Takes Responsibility For Multi-Car Crash At Kansas Speedway

A Lap 122 restart at Kansas Speedway sparked a multi-car crash involving Carson Hocevar, Bubba Wallace and others, ending Hocevar’s promising day and leaving him 33rd. Replays showed Brad Keselowski’s car making contact with Hocevar’s, fueling speculation that Keselowski was retaliating for their clash at Darlington, where he had warned Hocevar that payback would come. Hocevar instead said he and Ty Gibbs were going for the same opening and took responsibility, explaining that Gibbs was in his blind spot. Keselowski denied causing the wreck or acting in retaliation, though he acknowledged the payback theory made a compelling media storyline. Keselowski finished 12th, while Kyle Larson won the race.
The crash also collected Josh Berry, Zane Smith and Erik Jones. Hocevar moved up the track after getting loose and hit Bubba Wallace; he radioed that his car was probably destroyed and that he had a right-front flat.
Keselowski’s spotter, TJ Majors, praised the restart maneuver as the “Move of the race,” while Keselowski replied that it was “more of survival than anything else.”
At Darlington, Hocevar’s contact sent Keselowski spinning on Lap 107. Keselowski finished 23rd and Hocevar 11th; after Keselowski warned, “His day is coming, and it’s coming hard,” Hocevar responded, “I’ll tighten my belts.”
The Kansas result dropped Hocevar three places to 11th in the Chase standings, with six races remaining.
