Glenmede Trust Co. NA trimmed several major positions in the first quarter of 2025, cutting its eBay stake by 3.2% and its Teradyne holding by 5.5%, according to Watchlist News and Ticker Report. The moves signal a selective reshuffling of the firm's portfolio rather than a broad retreat from equities.
Not all trades were sells. Glenmede added 31,547 shares to its iShares MSCI Japan ETF position, bringing that stake to 1,428,598 shares worth roughly $120.63 million. That makes Japan its largest disclosed holding by value.
Glenmede sold 14,305 shares of eBay in Q1, leaving it with 428,761 shares valued at about $39.03 million, according to Watchlist News. That 3.2% reduction was the largest percentage cut among its equity positions. The firm also shed 7,605 shares of Teradyne, a semiconductor test equipment maker. That brought its Teradyne stake down to 130,522 shares, worth roughly $38.70 million — a 5.5% trim.
Teradyne shares have faced pressure in 2025 as chip demand forecasts have been mixed. Glenmede's 5.5% cut suggests reduced conviction in the stock's near-term outlook, even as the position remains a significant holding, per Ticker Report.
Glenmede sold 6,833 shares of the iShares S&P Small-Cap 600 Growth ETF (IJT) during Q1, according to Ticker Report. The firm now holds 346,762 shares of IJT, valued at about $50.18 million. That is a 1.9% reduction. Small-cap growth stocks have been volatile in 2025 amid rising interest rate uncertainty.
The firm also cut its SPDR Dow Jones Global Real Estate ETF (RWO) position by 13,113 shares, or 1.7%, leaving 749,029 shares worth about $34.28 million, per Watchlist News. Real estate funds have struggled as higher-for-longer interest rate fears weigh on property valuations globally.
While most moves were cuts, Glenmede went the other way on Japan. It added 31,547 shares to its iShares MSCI Japan ETF (EWJ) stake in Q1, according to Watchlist News. The position now stands at 1,428,598 shares, worth about $120.63 million. That is a 2.3% increase and by far the firm's largest holding by market value among those disclosed.
Japan's stock market has attracted global attention in recent years as the country moves away from decades of deflation. Glenmede's continued buying suggests it sees more room to run in Japanese equities, even as it pulls back elsewhere.
Beyond the headline moves, Glenmede also reduced its Costco Wholesale stake by 0.7%, selling 832 shares, according to Ticker Report. The fund now holds 125,090 shares of the retail giant. It is a small cut, but it fits the broader pattern of mild position reductions across the portfolio during the quarter.
Taken together, Glenmede's Q1 trades show a firm making small, deliberate adjustments. It is not making dramatic bets. Instead, it is trimming positions that may have grown too large or look less attractive, while adding selectively — most notably in Japan.
