India's Priya Ghanghas Secures Bronze Medal at Asian Games Boxing Tournament

India’s Priya Ghanghas won bronze in the women’s 60kg boxing event at the 2026 Asian Games after losing 1-4 to former world champion Yang Chengyu in the semifinals. The 20-year-old made her Games debut and secured the medal with a 5-0 quarterfinal victory over Tajikistan’s Mijgona Samadova, rallying after dropping the opening round. India’s boxers had secured six medals, surpassing the country’s previous Games tally; Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal had reached the finals, while Lovlina Borgohain and Kapil Pokhariya were still seeking places in the gold-medal bouts.
Ghanghas had already won gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games before making her Asian Games debut.
In the quarterfinal, Tajik southpaw Mijgona Samadova initially disrupted Ghanghas with her lead punch and hook; Ghanghas adapted by combining her jab with a right straight and applying pressure. Samadova lost a point in the second round for holding.
India’s Narender Berwal had also won bronze, in the men’s super-heavyweight division, before Ghanghas’s semifinal.
