Hundreds Still Missing After Massive Disaster Destroys China Border Port

The fate of hundreds of people in China's border zone, Gyirong Port, is still unknown following a landslide and flooding disaster on August 26. The port, a hub of movement and trade between China and Nepal, was completely destroyed, leaving a moonscape of rocks and sludge under a search area still being searched by emergency workers. No survivors have been found at the port, which has become a focal point for families worldwide seeking information about loved ones. As of China’s latest update nearly two days ago, there were 31 people confirmed dead and 531 missing on its side of the border. More than 1,000 people have been confirmed dead, and thousands remain missing following the disaster. The disaster has highlighted the remote nature of the region and the potential for further disasters.
