Sonoma Allocations Expands ETF Holdings in Q1, Boosting VTI and Momentum Exposure

Beyond Sonoma's VTI move, several other major investors increased their Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF stakes during the quarter, including Core Wealth Advisors LLC, Hilton Head Capital Partners LLC, Wealth Watch Advisors INC, Basepoint Wealth LLC and Strategic Wealth Investment Group LLC, underscoring broader institutional interest in VTI (institutional ownership around 28.92%).
In the same period, Invesco S&P MidCap Quality ETF (XMHQ) opened at $114.62, with the fund’s market capitalization around $5.44 billion, highlighting the stock's trading context as Sonoma trimmed its stake by 23%.
Global X U.S. Infrastructure Development ETF (PAVE) began trading at about $56.10, with a 12-month low of $44.28 and a high of $60.43, and a market cap near $11.08 billion, providing a sense of PAVE's price range as Sonoma built its position.
Global X Adaptive U.S. Factor ETF (AUSF) is described as targeting US large- and mid-cap stocks with exposure to value, momentum and low volatility, and it opened at $51.65 with a 50-day MA of $49.76 and a 200-day MA of $49.18; its current P/E is 13.73 and beta is 0.66.
Invesco S&P MidCap Momentum ETF (XMMO) is now Sonoma's 21st-largest holding, representing about 1% of the portfolio with 19,230 shares valued at roughly $2.844 million after a 55.1% increase.
Sonoma Allocations LLC made a series of bold ETF moves in the first quarter of 2026, reshaping its portfolio across domestic stocks, infrastructure, and momentum plays. The firm's biggest move was a 403% jump in its Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) stake, adding 2,883 shares to reach a total of 3,599 shares worth about $1.17 million, according to Watchlist News.
At the same time, Sonoma wasn't just buying. It trimmed its Invesco S&P MidCap Quality ETF (XMHQ) position by 23%, ending the quarter with 15,374 shares valued at roughly $1.60 million. The moves signal a firm actively tilting toward growth and momentum while pruning quality-focused mid-cap exposure.
Sonoma built two brand-new positions during the quarter. It bought 17,013 shares of Global X U.S. Infrastructure Development ETF (PAVE) for about $875,000. PAVE trades in a range of $44.28 to $60.43 over the past 12 months and carries a market cap near $11.08 billion, per Watchlist News. That context makes Sonoma's entry near the middle of that range look deliberate.
The firm also picked up 15,061 shares of Global X Adaptive U.S. Factor ETF (AUSF) for roughly $735,000. AUSF targets large- and mid-cap U.S. stocks with exposure to value, momentum, and low volatility. It opened at $51.65, sits above both its 50-day moving average of $49.76 and its 200-day moving average of $49.18, and carries a modest beta of 0.66 — meaning it moves less than the broader market.
Sonoma's most notable portfolio shift may be its 55.1% increase in Invesco S&P MidCap Momentum ETF (XMMO). The firm now holds 19,230 shares worth about $2.84 million, according to Ticker Report. That makes XMMO Sonoma's 21st-largest holding, representing roughly 1% of the total portfolio.
Momentum ETFs focus on stocks that have recently outperformed — essentially betting that winners keep winning. By boosting both XMMO and adding AUSF, which also has a momentum component, Sonoma is clearly leaning into that strategy heading into mid-2026.
Sonoma wasn't alone in buying more VTI. Several other firms also added to their Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF stakes in Q1, including Core Wealth Advisors LLC, Hilton Head Capital Partners LLC, Wealth Watch Advisors INC, Basepoint Wealth LLC, and Strategic Wealth Investment Group LLC, per Watchlist News. Institutional investors now own about 28.92% of VTI.
VTI tracks the entire U.S. stock market — large, mid, and small caps — making it a broad bet on American equities. The wave of institutional buying suggests money managers broadly expect continued domestic market strength through the rest of 2026.
Beyond its headline moves, Sonoma also opened positions in several other ETFs during Q1. It bought 22,430 shares of Avantis Emerging Markets Equity ETF (AVEM) for about $1.825 million and added 8,134 shares of Global X Defense Tech ETF (SHLD) for $602,000, per Ticker Report. It also increased its Angel Oak Income ETF (CARY) stake by 41.8%, bringing its total to 108,778 shares after buying 32,061 new shares.
And separately, Sonoma purchased 7,232 shares of Invesco S&P SmallCap Momentum ETF (XSMO), per Watchlist News. Taken together, the firm's Q1 activity spans domestic stocks, infrastructure, defense, emerging markets, fixed income, and momentum — a wide-ranging diversification push across asset classes and geographies.
