Amitabh Bachchan Injures Knee During KBC 18 Shoot But Continues Hosting

Bachchan described the injury as a tear, saying, “It’s torn,” in explaining why he had trouble standing after the fall.
One report specified that Bachchan injured his left knee and said he planned to take brief rests between takes; it also reported that his treatment was being handled on set.
After his seated opening, Bachchan welcomed rollover contestant Shourjya Das back to the hot seat; she reached the Rs 50 lakh question during the episode.
Days before the injury update, Bachchan had pushed back against reports that he planned to retire, clarifying that his remark about retiring referred to going to bed late, not quitting work.
Amitabh Bachchan, 83, injured his left knee after slipping and falling during a Times Now News shoot of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18. He described the injury as a tear, saying he had trouble standing afterward. Despite the pain, Bachchan delivered the episode's opening remarks seated, then continued hosting and reassured viewers the injury was manageable.
Bachchan welcomed rollover contestant Shourjya Das back to the hot seat. Das reached the ₹50 lakh question during the episode. Production teams adjusted the shoot to allow brief rests between takes, with on-set medical staff managing his treatment without hospitalization.
During yesterday's KBC 18 shoot, Bachchan slipped on set and fell, injuring his left knee according to Desi Blitz. On camera, he explained directly: "Usually, I do my monologue standing at the center but today, I have a knee injury." He called the injury a tear and noted that standing was uncomfortable. Still, he told fans not to worry about his condition.
Falls at Bachchan's age carry real risks. According to medical experts, falls can cause bruising, swelling, ligament tears, meniscus damage, or bone fractures. Difficulty standing usually stems from pain or stiffness. However, doctors recommend immediate assessment if a person experiences severe pain, major swelling, trouble bearing weight, instability, or joint locking.
Dr. Ashish Phadnis, an orthopedics specialist, emphasized that soft-tissue injuries like torn ligaments or meniscus tears need formal diagnostic testing beyond simple X-rays. An MRI scan can reveal hidden damage that plain imaging might miss, especially in older patients where healing takes longer.
Hindustan Times reported that Bachchan was praised by fans for pushing through the pain. The 83-year-old appeared at a Mumbai book launch event days after the fall, showing he remained mobile despite his knee trouble. His decision to keep working underscores the physical demands on a lead television host managing a daily shooting schedule at his age.
Production teams made smart adjustments. They allowed Bachchan to deliver his opening monologue seated instead of standing center-stage as usual. He also took brief rests between takes to manage discomfort. This flexibility let him continue hosting without requiring hospitalization or stepping away from the show.
This is not Bachchan's first serious on-set injury. During the 1982 film Coolie, a botched fight scene caused critical internal bleeding that required emergency surgery and blood transfusions. Those transfusions led to a Hepatitis B infection that left him with permanent liver damage. In a prior KBC season, a sharp metal piece cut a vein in his left calf, requiring emergency stitches.
Days before the knee injury, Bachchan dismissed retirement rumors, clarifying that an earlier comment about "retiring" referred to his nightly sleep schedule, not leaving work. At 83 and preparing to turn 84 next week, he continues to show no signs of slowing down despite the physical toll.
