Golfer Phil Mickelson Leaves Treatment Program Amid Ongoing Family and Personal Matters

Phil Mickelson voluntarily entered an undisclosed treatment program for family trauma and addiction and has since left, according to his representative. The 56-year-old golfer has largely been away from competition since March, citing a private family health matter, and withdrew from the Masters. Reports included allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a golf-club employee and other allegations that his representatives disputed or described as previously addressed; Mickelson is no longer a member of the club. He has previously acknowledged struggling with gambling addiction and seeking professional help, but no details have been disclosed about his recent treatment or the family matter.
Mickelson played in just one tournament in 2026: LIV Golf South Africa in March, where he tied for 48th; he has not competed since.
A report based on interviews with 19 people described two alleged incidents: Mickelson allegedly propositioned fellow pro Pat Perez’s wife while Perez was away, and allegedly made graphic depictions at a restaurant dinner. His representatives disputed some allegations and said others involved mistakes he had already acknowledged.
In a 2022 account of his gambling, Mickelson said it became reckless about a decade earlier and that he had spent “hundreds of hours of therapy” addressing it. He also said his wife, Amy, had supported him through the process.
The California Post reported that Mickelson sought help through a men’s addiction and trauma treatment program, though the timing of his enrollment and the length of his stay were not disclosed.
The New York Post reported that Amy Mickelson was seen in July without her wedding ring and had not been photographed in public since; the article did not establish what, if anything, that indicated about their relationship.
