Encompass Capital Expands Diversified Portfolio with Major Stakes in Energy and Critical Materials

UEC stake: Encompass Capital Advisors LLC disclosed a new position in Uranium Energy Corp (UEC) of 3,000,000 shares, valued at about $40.50 million, representing roughly 1.2% of its holdings and ranking as the fund’s 21st largest position.
AESI stake: Encompass bought 9,135,182 shares of Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. (AESI) for approximately $119.854 million, accounting for about 3.6% of Encompass’s holdings and placing AESI as the fund’s 3rd biggest position (up from a roughly 0.07% stake at the end of the prior quarter).
ASPI stake and insider action: Encompass purchased 6,912,054 shares of ASP Isotopes Inc. (ASPI) for about $30.551 million (roughly 0.05% of ASPI), and Director Michael Gorley sold 30,000 ASPI shares on June 30 for $188,100.
USAR context: Encompass added 465,000 shares of USA Rare Earth Inc. (USAR) for about $7.038 million; USAR opened at $14.93, with a 52-week range of $10.91–$43.98, a negative P/E of -3.81, and a beta of 2.45. The quarter also saw notable buying from other institutions, including Bank of America adding 199,819 shares (totaling 242,726).
Encompass Capital Advisors LLC made a bold bet on uranium in the first quarter, snapping up 3,000,000 shares of Uranium Energy Corp. for about $40.5 million, according to Watchlist News. The move ranks UEC as the fund's 21st largest position, representing roughly 1.2% of its total holdings.
The uranium buy was just one of five new stakes Encompass disclosed in its latest 13F filing. The fund spread roughly $230 million across energy, shipping, isotopes, and rare earths in a single quarter.
The biggest move of the quarter was in Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. Encompass bought 9,135,182 shares of AESI for about $119.9 million, per Watchlist News. That single purchase pushed AESI from a tiny 0.07% stake to the fund's third-largest position, now worth 3.6% of total holdings.
The size of the AESI bet dwarfs every other new position. It is more than twice the value of the UEC stake and nearly four times the fund's investment in ASP Isotopes. It signals Encompass sees major upside in the oilfield sand and logistics space.
Beyond uranium, Encompass added 6,912,054 shares of ASP Isotopes Inc. for about $30.6 million, according to Watchlist News. That stake equals roughly 0.05% of ASPI's outstanding shares. The two positions together show a clear tilt toward nuclear-related assets.
There was notable insider activity at ASP Isotopes during the same period. Director Michael Gorley sold 30,000 ASPI shares on June 30 for $188,100. That sale came even as institutional buyers like Encompass were building new positions in the company.
Encompass also took a 465,000-share stake in USA Rare Earth Inc. for about $7.0 million, per Watchlist News. USAR trades with a negative P/E of -3.81 and a high beta of 2.45, meaning it swings hard with the market. Its 52-week range runs from $10.91 to $43.98, a sign of extreme volatility.
On the shipping side, the fund added 199,834 shares of Matson Inc. for about $32.8 million. Encompass was not alone in buying USAR — Bank of America added 199,819 shares in the same quarter, bringing its total to 242,726 shares.
Taken together, the five new positions show a fund betting on hard assets and real-world supply chains. Uranium, isotopes, rare earths, sand logistics, and ocean shipping all share one thread: they supply critical materials or move physical goods.
The $119.9 million AESI stake alone shows Encompass is willing to make concentrated bets. The UEC and ASPI buys add nuclear exposure at two different points in the supply chain — raw fuel and medical-grade isotopes. The rare earth play in USAR, despite its small size at $7 million, fits the same critical materials theme.
