Record Rains and Severe Flooding Kill at Least 15 Across Uttar Pradesh

Heavy rain and storms have caused widespread damage across Uttar Pradesh, with officials reporting 15 deaths over 48 hours and another account putting the toll above 16. Sixty-three districts recorded above-normal rainfall, and the state received about 19 times its usual rainfall in the 24 hours cited by officials; more than 100 homes, crops and infrastructure were damaged, while flooding disrupted communities and roads. The India Meteorological Department warned that heavy to very heavy rain could continue, with isolated extreme rainfall and a light to moderate flash-flood risk in parts of the state. State authorities have directed local officials to provide relief, assess losses, assist affected families and prepare rescue teams.
