Terryl Call's decision to become a nurse wasn't random. Her family spent nearly two years at AVMC while her father battled cancer. KY3 explains that Call watched how the hospital's nurses cared for her father and embraced her family during a painful time. "Seeing the care those nurses provided for my father and the way we were embraced as children, it basically led my way," Call said.
That experience shaped Call's career path. She rose to become a house supervisor at AVMC, now managing staff and hospital operations. Call grew emotional recalling the impact: "It honestly makes me very emotional, but I am very honored and privileged" to work where her family was once cared for.
Twin Sisters Choose Emergency Room Together
Patricia Pendleton's granddaughters, Amanda and Tayler, attended nursing school together and both landed jobs in AVMC's emergency room. Amanda explained her path simply: "Growing up, I just remember thinking my mom was the coolest person ever and my grandma was the coolest person ever. It wasn't really like we were pushed. It was kind of natural and flowed that way."
The sisters see each other regularly during shifts. Tayler shared a touching detail: "We work nights so we get to see her for an hour. She always comes down and says 'hi' and it's the best thing." Their mother Call makes time to visit, keeping the family connected across the hospital's floors.
