Heart Aerospace has unveiled the ES-36, a 36-seat hybrid-electric regional aircraft replacing the previously announced 30-seat ES-30. The redesigned aircraft adds six seats and 1,415 pounds of payload capacity while retaining the earlier model’s maximum takeoff weight and battery capacity, and its two-nacelle layout is intended to reduce drag, maintenance needs and operating costs. Twin powertrains each pair a 1.65-megawatt electric motor with a gas-turbine-powered turbogenerator, providing 125 miles of all-electric range and up to 745 miles in hybrid operation. JSX has converted its earlier agreement with Heart into a deposit-backed purchase commitment for 50 aircraft, with options for 50 more, as it seeks to serve short regional routes from airports where jet operations are constrained.
