Egyptian authorities arrest the entire editorial team of independent media site Matsadaash over funding allegations.

Egyptian authorities have arrested the entire editorial team of independent media site Matsadaash, Arabic for "Don't Believe," for allegedly producing fabricated news for the site in exchange for funding from abroad. The allegations were refuted by founder Abdelrahman Mansour, who stated that after two editors were arrested in 2023, State Security investigators found no affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt’s Interior Ministry described MatsadaASH as an unlicensed page managed from abroad by a “fugitive Brotherhood member” identified as Mansour. Over 80 international and regional rights groups, civil society organizations, and independent media have called for the journalists' release. Egypt is among the world's worst jailers of journalists, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
