ProShares Nasdaq-100 ETF Short Interest Falls Dramatically by 62% in September

The ProShares Nasdaq-100 Dorsey Wright Momentum ETF saw short interest fall 61.8% in September, while its shares traded at $71.56; a financial-planning firm also disclosed a new 1,700-share stake. Separately, the Nasdaq was quoted at 92.92, down 0.67% from its prior close, with trading indicators pointing to a mildly bearish opening. A market-seasonality analysis says the S&P 500 has moved through the historically weak portion of the presidential cycle with only modest losses and is entering a period that has typically been favorable for stocks, though this year’s rally means the usual depressed starting point is absent.
QQQA’s short-interest ratio was 0.7 days based on average trading volume, and about 1.1% of its shares were sold short.
QQQA traded 17,817 shares on Monday, below its reported average volume of 24,992; its 50-day and 200-day moving averages were $70.53 and $69.16, respectively.
The Nasdaq’s reported session range was 91.95 to 93.22, putting the 92.92 quote 1.05% above the low and 0.32% below the high; the bearish opening did not create a price gap.
The S&P 500 closed 2025 at 6,845.49 and later reached a March 30 closing low of 6,343.73, a 7.3% year-to-date decline at that point. Carson Investment Research analyst Ryan Detrick described the current and next two quarters as the three strongest quarters of the four-year presidential cycle.
