Carnegie Mellon University Announces New Miami Campus Following Historic Three Billion Dollar Donation

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is receiving a $3 billion gift from billionaire Ken Griffin, the founder of hedge fund Citadel, as the largest individual donation in higher education history. The gift will fund $1 billion into CMU's Pittsburgh campus, $500 million towards the Pittsburgh School of Computer Science, $2 billion towards a 35-acre campus in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood, which is expected to serve over 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students. The university plans to include programs around major societal challenges such as health, national security, energy resilience, and advanced manufacturing. Griffin will join the Board of Trustees.
