Blizzard announces World of Warcraft Forever, a new Classic Plus MMORPG launching November 2026.

The reveal trailer showed the original game’s dwarf hunter taking a different route to Dalaran, which opens to reveal hidden secrets, alongside a glimpse of the previously inaccessible World Tree Nordrassil and a new sky kingdom tied to the Skyborne Elves.
Beyond its zones, quests, dungeons and raids, Forever will add new reputations, collectible pets and updated world visuals, expanding the classic setting without raising the level cap.
Blizzard described the planned post-launch model as horizontal expansion: the level-60 experience will continue to receive new raids, quests and other content rather than progressing into higher-level expansions.
Blizzard is offering a “Warcraft Forever Collection” bundle combining Warcraft 3: Reforged with World of Warcraft: Forever, allowing players to experience the franchise’s real-time-strategy origins alongside the new MMO.
The new Warcraft 3 campaign was announced as the series’ first in more than two decades and was scheduled to launch on the day of the announcement.
Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Forever on November 4, 2026, a new "Classic Plus" MMORPG set in the original 2004 game's world. IGN reported the game will keep the level-60 cap while adding three new zones, revamped classic areas, new quests, dungeons, raids, and a playable Skyborne Elves race. The game is designed to exist alongside WoW Classic and modern Retail, letting players explore and socialize without the pressure of endless level grinding.
A beta launches September 17, 2026. Shacknews noted that Blizzard plans "horizontal expansion"—adding new content within the level-60 experience rather than introducing higher levels. The reveal trailer showed the original dwarf hunter discovering hidden secrets and accessing previously locked areas like the World Tree Nordrassil and a new sky kingdom tied to the Skyborne Elves.
Forever refuses the traditional expansion path of raising the level cap. Blizzard describes this as horizontal progression: new raids, quests, reputations, pets, and battlegrounds arrive without making old content obsolete. Players stay at level 60 forever, meaning a dungeon from day one never becomes "too easy" or "too low level." This design choice creates a single shared world where all content stays relevant and dangerous.
Forever launches with three brand-new zones, expanded classic areas, and multiple dungeons and raids according to Shacknews. The Skyborne Elves become playable for the first time, tied to a hidden sky kingdom shown in the reveal trailer. Players can access the World Tree Nordrassil and other previously inaccessible locations. Each area includes new quests, reputations to earn, and collectible pets that reward exploration over pure combat power.
The closed beta begins September 17, 2026, giving players two months to test the game before launch per Blizzard's announcement. Blizzard also created the "Warcraft Forever Collection," bundling World of Warcraft: Forever with Warcraft 3: Reforged. A new Warcraft 3 campaign—the franchise's first in over 20 years—launched the same day as the Forever announcement. This bundle lets long-time fans experience both the RTS roots and the new MMO in one package.
Forever joins Retail WoW and WoW Classic as a third pillar in Blizzard's MMORPG lineup. Retail continues to evolve with new expansions and higher levels. Classic preserves the 2004 progression path exactly. Forever adds new content and zones within the original world's rules and setting. This separation lets Blizzard test community ideas—unexplored areas, new races, alternate lore—without forcing changes into the modern game. Each version appeals to different player goals: endless power growth, authentic nostalgia, or the balance of exploration and journey.
