Provincial Election Candidates Confirmed for Nanaimo and Oceanside Ridings Ahead of Vote

Thirteen candidates have filed to run in four mid-Island ridings for British Columbia's 2026 provincial election, with races shaping up across Nanaimo-Gabriola Island and Nanaimo-Lantzville Nanaimo News Now. The races will test incumbent NDP MLA Sheila Malcolmson in Nanaimo-Gabriola Island and first-term NDP MLA George Anderson in Nanaimo-Lantzville, as the BC Conservatives and Greens mount competitive challenges.
Incumbent NDP candidate Sheila Malcolmson will defend her seat against two main challengers Nanaimo News Now. Mark MacDonald of the BC Conservatives and Anna Mary McKenzie from the BC Green Party are running to unseat the sitting MLA in this riding.
First-term MLA George Anderson will face three challengers in Nanaimo-Lantzville, all seeking to take the seat Nanaimo News Now. BC Conservative Kelsey Pringle, BC Green party candidate Sharleen Weatherley, and Pepper Saltman of the Communist Party of BC are all running against Anderson.
The mid-Island races are part of a larger provincial trend Victoria Buzz. According to Elections BC, 355 candidates are running across the province's 93 electoral districts for the upcoming election.
