First United States Horse Case of New World Screwworm Detected in Texas

The first horse in the United States to be infected with New World screwworm has been detected in southern Texas near the Mexican border. The case was confirmed in Presidio County, following months of an infestation of U.S. cattle that has raised concerns about how to control the spread of the pest. The Texas Animal Health Commission has issued an order banning the movement of warm-blooded animals outside of an "infested" zone within Presidie and Jeff Davis counties.
