Liquidia Shares Plunge 57 Percent Following Federal Court Patent Ruling on Yutrepia

Yutrepia is a dry-powder inhaled treprostinil product developed with Liquidia’s proprietary PRINT technology, which is designed to deliver the drug deep into the lungs and allow higher doses than other inhaled treprostinil therapies. The FDA approved it in May 2025 for PAH and PH-ILD, and Liquidia launched it in June 2025.
The patent dispute began in 2023 after Liquidia sought to add PH-ILD as a Yutrepia indication and notified United Therapeutics it was challenging patents covering inhaled treprostinil. United sued in September 2023 and added the subsequently issued ’327 patent to its case that November.
United Therapeutics says it believes it is entitled to an order directing the FDA to withdraw Yutrepia’s New Drug Application approval; if granted, the drug could leave the U.S. market until the FDA approves labeling that excludes PH-ILD.
Liquidia had conceded that Yutrepia infringed the two patent claims, so the court’s decision that those claims were valid settled liability. The ruling also came as nebulized Tyvaso sales fell 18% year over year in the second quarter, suggesting Yutrepia had already been winning patients from United Therapeutics.

The ruling resolved the validity question but left open what happens next AOL. United Therapeutics is asking the FDA to withdraw Yutrepia's approval entirely.
