Anthropic Launches In-Country Claude Inference in India to Meet Data Regulations

India is Anthropic’s second-largest market for Claude.ai, and software development makes up 45.2% of work-related tasks users bring to Claude there—the highest share of any market, according to Anthropic India managing director Irina Ghose.
The articles cite several specific enterprise deployments: TCS is equipping 50,000 associates with Claude, Infosys is combining it with its Topaz platform, and Cognizant uses Claude in systems it builds for clients.
Anthropic’s India expansion comes as the company prepares for a potential public listing, according to Moneycontrol, which describes India as crucial to the firm’s future growth.
Anthropic has launched in-country Claude inference in India, making its Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5 models available through Amazon Bedrock with data processing on local servers. Mint reported that the move directly addresses data-residency rules that have blocked AI deployment in regulated sectors like finance and government. India is now Anthropic's second-largest market for Claude.ai, according to the company.
The launch includes audit trails and access controls built for production use. Rediff noted that local inference was a frequent request from Indian organizations. Major enterprises are already adopting Claude — TCS is equipping 50,000 workers with it, Infosys integrates it with its Topaz platform, and Cognizant uses Claude in client-facing systems.
India's banking, government, and healthcare sectors face strict rules: sensitive data cannot leave the country. Rediff explained that without in-country processing, companies in regulated industries couldn't use Claude. Now they can send requests to an India endpoint and have servers process them entirely within India's borders, solving a compliance headache.
Software development accounts for 45.2% of work-related tasks Indians bring to Claude — the highest share of any market globally. VarIndia reported that this reflects India's massive tech workforce. Beyond IT, Claude is spreading into banking and healthcare. The local inference option removes a final barrier: companies can now comply with regulations while scaling Claude use across their teams.
Anthropic managing director Irina Ghose said local processing reflects the company's long-term investment in India. Rediff noted that India is crucial to Anthropic's future growth, especially as the company prepares for a potential public listing. The launch signals that Anthropic is serious about competing in Asia's largest tech market, where demand for data sovereignty and local AI processing is rising fast.
