Delhi University Extends PhD Deadline and Introduces Direct Admission for Graduates

The University of Delhi has extended the 2026 PhD admission registration deadline to September 16 for students who completed four-year undergraduate programs under the NEP 2020 and UGCF frameworks. The university is also offering a one-time direct PhD admission route for eligible FYUP graduates, allowing them to apply without a master’s degree; applicants generally need at least a 7.5 CGPA, while the threshold is 7 CGPA for SC and ST candidates. Registration, fee payment and research-proposal updates must be completed by the revised deadline through DU’s admission portal, and applicants should verify their personal, academic and proposal details before submitting. Candidates are advised to check the portal regularly for department-specific schedules and further updates.
The revised deadline was moved from September 14, 2026, to September 16, 2026, giving applicants two additional days to apply.
The direct-entry provision applies specifically to the first cohort of students who completed DU’s four-year undergraduate programme in the 2026 academic session, and is being offered as a one-time admission opportunity.
DU had admitted 75,948 students to the FYUP in 2022; 40,005 exited after three years in 2025, while 35,943 continued into the fourth year.
Applicants can begin registration by entering their enrolment number and date of birth, then logging in or creating an applicant account; DU says the application information should match official academic and identification documents.
The university’s notice is available through DU’s admission sites, including admission.uod.ac.in and the dedicated PhD login page at pgportal.uod.ac.in/phd-login.
