The GBI said the shooting began on the 900 block of Pine Street, while the two men were found dead on the 600 block—several blocks from where investigators said the gunfire originated.

The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office planned to conduct autopsies on both men, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
A mass shooting at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, killed two men and injured up to 35 others early Sunday morning. CBS News reported the violence erupted around 1:25 a.m. when more than 1,000 people had gathered near Pine Street. The victims, ages 20 and 23, were pronounced dead at the scene, while at least 25 people were hospitalized.
Gunfire broke out at two separate locations about a block apart during the homecoming celebration. Gray News said the shooting began on the 900 block of Pine Street, but the two dead men were found several blocks away on the 600 block. Authorities have not yet identified the victims or disclosed a suspect or motive. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Dooly County Sheriff's Office in the ongoing investigation.
The shooting unfolded in chaotic fashion across Vienna's Pine Street neighborhood. AJC reported that gunfire erupted at two locations about a block apart, with shots initially fired on the 900 block. The two fatal victims were later discovered several blocks away on the 600 block, suggesting the violence spread or victims fled significant distances before collapsing.
Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said shots were fired at least 50 people. Authorities remained uncertain how many of the 35 reported injured were actually struck by bullets versus injured in the rush to escape. At least 25 people sought treatment at hospitals for their injuries.
Deputies were already on scene monitoring the homecoming block party when gunfire erupted. Hindustan Times noted the gathering had swelled to more than 1,000 people, making it a substantial neighborhood celebration. The presence of law enforcement nearby may have helped first responders reach victims quickly, though it did not prevent the violence from unfolding.
The block party occurred around 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, during the late-night hours when such community events typically wind down. The exact reason for the shooting—whether it stemmed from a personal dispute, gang activity, or other cause—remains unknown as investigators continue their work..
Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls confirmed the two victims were a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. Their families have been notified, but Gray News reported the men have not been publicly identified because the shooting remains under investigation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Medical Examiner's Office planned autopsies to determine exact cause of death.
No suspect has been named, and investigators have disclosed no motive for the violence. The GBI is leading the investigation with assistance from local authorities in Dooly County. Officials urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact law enforcement as the case develops.
