Texas Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2019 Murder of Girlfriend

Investigators determined Garza was killed sometime between March 28 and April 4, 2019. Her mother filed a missing-person report on April 26, and investigators later obtained audio evidence that pointed them to the area where the remains were found.
Investigators also found blood evidence inside Devorah’s house, in addition to the bones and fragments in the backyard burn pit.
Atascosa County District Attorney Audrey Gossett Louis said, “No sentence can restore what her family has lost,” adding that Garza’s life and the truth about what happened to her “deserved every bit of that effort.”
Jeffrey Lee Devorah, a 47-year-old Texas man, was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend, Tiffany Garza, in 2019. Express News reported that Devorah must serve at least 30 years before becoming eligible for parole. A jury convicted him of the killing, and he chose to have a judge set his sentence rather than request a jury recommendation.
Garza disappeared between late March and early April 2019. Her mother filed a missing-person report on April 26. Investigators later recovered bone fragments in Devorah's backyard burn pit that were identified as belonging to a woman in Garza's age range, Hoodline reported.
A witness told investigators they saw Devorah kill Garza and helped burn her body in his backyard. This eyewitness account became crucial to building the prosecution's case. Police also found blood evidence inside Devorah's house, strengthening the evidence against him.
Investigators determined Garza was killed sometime between March 28 and April 4, 2019. Audio evidence obtained by police pointed them to the area where her remains were later found. Forensic experts examined the bone fragments recovered from the burn pit and confirmed they belonged to a woman matching Garza's age and profile.
Atascosa County District Attorney Audrey Gossett Louis said Garza's case demanded thorough investigation and justice. "No sentence can restore what her family has lost," Gossett Louis said, emphasizing that Garza's life and the truth about her death "deserved every bit of that effort." The five-year search for answers ended with Devorah's conviction and life sentence.
