Police departments across multiple states invite residents to Coffee With a Cop gatherings.

Police departments in Washington, Hilo, Lima, Jackson and San Gabriel are inviting residents to Coffee With a Cop gatherings, offering informal opportunities to meet officers, ask questions and discuss community concerns over coffee. Several events are scheduled for Oct. 7, including gatherings in Washington, Lima, Jackson and San Gabriel; Hilo is holding two events on Oct. 1 and plans additional islandwide gatherings on Oct. 7. The events involve local police and, in some locations, sheriff’s offices and other public-safety agencies.
Washington officers will provide free coffee at the Oct. 7 gathering, scheduled for 8–10 a.m. at McDonald’s, 1408 Carolina Avenue; the city says everyone is welcome.
Hilo’s Oct. 1 events are being held in honor of International Coffee Day, and the department describes them as informal gatherings with no agenda, where conversation may range from personal stories to neighborhood issues.
Jackson Police Chief Christopher Simpson said officers were looking forward to talking about whatever comes to mind, “especially the Detroit Lions”; Jackson Coffee Company is sponsoring the event.
Hilo’s Oct. 7 islandwide gatherings are planned in observance of the 10th annual national Coffee With a Cop Day, with locations and times still to be announced in the article.
