Falcons spoil Superdome anniversary celebrations by defeating the Saints 45-24 on Monday night.

The 2005 hurricane’s damage went beyond displacing the Saints: levee breaks and storm surge flooded about 80% of New Orleans, while the Superdome’s roof was torn open as evacuees sheltered inside.
Before kickoff, Steve Gleason led the Superdome’s “Who Dat” chant alongside several members of the 2006 Saints team, including Drew Brees, Scott Fujita and Deuce McAllister.
The original 2006 reopening game was remembered for Gleason’s punt-block touchdown after the opening possession, which helped spark the Saints’ 23-3 win over Atlanta.
New Orleans had a chance to narrow the deficit after halftime, but its 13-play drive stalled at Atlanta’s 8-yard line and ended with a 27-yard field goal.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown, sealing the win with a 31-yard scoring pass to Jahan Dotson in the fourth quarter. The Falcons improved to 2-2, while CanalStreetChronicles noted the Saints fell to 1-3.

The Falcons' dominance at the line of scrimmage was clear: they outgained New Orleans 207 yards to just 50 on the ground. AOL called the loss the Saints' most disappointing performance of the season, as the home team failed to establish any running game momentum.
New Orleans had scoring chances but couldn't capitalize. Quarterback Tyler Shough threw for 286 yards and a late touchdown to Devaughn Vele, while running back Alvin Kamara scored twice. The second touchdown cut Atlanta's lead to 31-17 early in the fourth quarter, briefly giving Saints fans hope.
A critical drive stalled in the second half when New Orleans' 13-play offensive march reached Atlanta's 8-yard line but could only produce a 27-yard field goal. This missed opportunity proved costly as the Falcons pulled away to win convincingly.
Monday's game marked the 20th anniversary of the Superdome's reopening following Hurricane Katrina's devastation in 2005. The storm broke levees and caused storm surge that flooded about 80% of New Orleans, tearing open the Superdome's roof while evacuees sheltered inside. SSBCrack noted that Atlanta's dominant performance dampened the celebration.
Before kickoff, Steve Gleason led the Superdome's iconic "Who Dat" chant alongside members of the 2006 Saints team, including Drew Brees and Deuce McAllister.
