Political Podcast Awards Add Independent Category for 2027

The 2027 Political Podcast Awards will be held on 2 February 2027 in Westminster, hosted by broadcaster and former MP Gyles Brandreth, with nominations closing on 16 October 2026. The awards are sponsored by YouTube and organized by iNHouse Communications.
The awards’ judging panel will be chaired by Anne Alexander, head of politics at Good Morning Britain, with additional categories including Best Newcomer, Comedy Moment of the Year, Interview of the Year, Most Original Format, Presenter of the Year, Producer of the Year, Rising Star and Story of the Year.
Boxlore is described as a free, ad-free Android app whose recommendation system operates on-device. Its AI Feed Assistant asks users questions before generating recommendations, while its search tool can respond to natural-language prompts such as “how does a black hole work?”
The summer podcast roundup included ABC News’ six-part true-crime series “Blood and Water,” which revisits Leslie Preer’s 2001 murder using original police recordings, interviews with cold-case detectives and DNA evidence that pointed to an unknown male at the crime scene.
The Disney podcast strategy includes an interview with Hulu general manager Lauren Tempest and details of new podcasts planned for the platform, as Disney develops an approach for Disney+ and Hulu that differs from Netflix’s strategy.
The 2027 Political Podcast Awards will introduce an Independent Podcast of the Year category, recognizing creators outside Westminster's establishment voices. Hosted by broadcaster and former MP Gyles Brandreth on 2 February 2027, the awards—organized by iNHouse Communications and sponsored by YouTube—aim to celebrate the medium's expanding reach beyond traditional political circles.
Political podcasting has become increasingly competitive. The 2027 awards will feature eight categories including Best Newcomer, Most Original Format, and Presenter of the Year. Anne Alexander, head of politics at Good Morning Britain, chairs the judging panel. Nominations close on 16 October 2026, giving creators three months to submit their work.
Podcast discovery is changing. Apps like boxlore use on-device AI recommendations instead of relying on algorithm-driven suggestions from major platforms. The free Android app asks users targeted questions before suggesting shows. Its natural-language search tool handles complex queries: "How does a black hole work?" returns relevant episodes instantly. This approach cuts through the noise of platform-promoted titles dominating listener feeds.
Recent podcast launches span far beyond politics. ABC News released "Blood and Water," a six-part true-crime series reopening Leslie Preer's 2001 murder case. The show uses original police recordings, detective interviews, and DNA evidence pointing to an unknown male suspect. Other summer offerings included book adaptations and investigations into how data centers impact local communities. The diversity reflects podcasting's evolution into a mainstream medium covering everything from cold cases to technology's social effects.
Disney is aggressively expanding its audio strategy. Hulu general manager Lauren Tempest oversees new podcast development for both Disney+ and Hulu, signaling the company's commitment to creator-led content. Disney's approach differs sharply from Netflix, which has largely exited podcasting. As streaming platforms compete for exclusive audio talent and original series, podcasts represent a growing revenue stream and brand loyalty tool for major entertainment companies.
