Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Portugal training camp and misses remaining Nations League matches.

Cristiano Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp ahead of its Nations League match against Denmark, saying he would later explain his reasons. His departure followed his being an unused substitute in Portugal’s win over Norway and coach Jorge Jesus’s comments that no player, including Ronaldo, was guaranteed a starting place. Jesus denied a rift, while Ronaldo said his decision came after the coach’s press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. Portugal confirmed Ronaldo would miss the remaining matches and would not call up a replacement. Ronaldo did not explicitly announce his retirement, leaving his international future unclear.
Ronaldo started Portugal’s 1-0 win over Wales before being left on the bench against Norway; his goal against Wales was disallowed.
Jesus said Ronaldo would play against Denmark only if the team needed him, adding: “No player will ever make a decision for me.”
Jesus and Ronaldo had worked together at Al-Nassr the previous season, winning the league title.
In his Instagram message, Ronaldo wished Portugal and his teammates good luck “without exception.”
