Middle-earth Shadow Games Head to Nintendo Switch 2 This September

The games are set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and were originally developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
The Switch 2 editions previously appeared on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC; Shadow of Mordor was also released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Shadow of War’s Definitive Edition includes the Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel story expansions, along with additional Nemesis and story content featuring a new playable character, Orc Tribe, missions, enemies, followers, abilities, weapons, Fortress and wilderness updates, and a Legendary Gear Set.
Players can use Wraith abilities to dominate defeated Orcs and turn them into loyal captains before commanding an army in the wider war.
The Nintendo release does not continue Talion’s story with a new entry; it brings the two original games to a new platform nearly nine years after Shadow of War’s release.
Aspyr is bringing two of Middle-earth's finest action games to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30, 2026. Happy Gamer reports that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition will mark the series' Nintendo debut, available separately or bundled together at a 50% pre-order discount through launch day.
The games are built around the Nemesis System, which creates persistent Orc rivals that remember your encounters and adapt to your tactics. MonsterVine notes the bundle includes all previously released downloadable content and expansions, with bundle pre-orders priced at $34.99, down from $69.99.
Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are the most beloved modern Lord of the Rings video games. CineLinx highlights that Aspyr Media, known for quality console ports, is handling the conversions. These games originally launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC but never reached a Nintendo system until now—nearly nine years after Shadow of War's initial release.
The games were originally developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. They sit between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, offering players a chance to explore Middle-earth during a gap in Tolkien's timeline.
Both games center on the Nemesis System, which Eurogamer calls one of gaming's best innovations. Orcs you defeat remember you, learn your fighting style, and come back stronger. This system made the games stand out from typical action titles and created truly personal rivalries that felt unique to each player.
In Shadow of Mordor, you play as ranger Talion seeking vengeance in Mordor. Shadow of War expands this with fortress assaults, army management, and direct conflict against Sauron. You can dominate defeated Orcs using Wraith abilities, turning enemies into loyal captains to build your personal army.
The Shadow of War Definitive Edition bundles substantial extra content. MonsterVine reports it includes the Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel story expansions with new playable characters, new Orc Tribes, missions, enemies, followers, and abilities. Players get additional Legendary Gear Sets and fortress updates unavailable in the base game.
Pre-order pricing runs through September 30, 2026. Individual games cost $9.99 for Shadow of Mordor and $24.99 for Shadow of War during pre-order. The complete bundle drops from $69.99 to $34.99, offering the best value for players new to Middle-earth's action-adventure legacy.
