Mumbai Indians retain core players and appoint a new coach for the upcoming WPL season.

Mumbai Indians have retained 11 players for the 2027 Women’s Premier League season, preserving a core led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and including Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr. The franchise released six players: Poonam Khemnar, Saika Ishaque, Triveni Vasistha, Nalla Reddy, Milly Illingworth and G. Kamilini. Mumbai will have the chance to fill out its squad at the WPL auction in Kochi on October 28, 2026. The team has also appointed Luke Williams as head coach for the 2027 season, replacing Lisa Keightley.
Mumbai’s other retained players include Amanjot Kaur, Nicola Carey, Shabnim Ismail, S. Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta, Rahila Firdous and Vaishnavi Sharma.
Vaishnavi Sharma joined Mumbai midway through the 2026 season as an injury replacement for G. Kamalini. The 20-year-old spinner, part of India’s 2025 Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning squad, played three matches for Mumbai.
In the 2026 season, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt were among Mumbai’s leading batters, while Amelia Kerr topped the team’s wicket-taking charts with 14 wickets in seven matches.
Mumbai Indians won the inaugural WPL title in 2023 and claimed the championship again in 2025.
The 2027 WPL season is scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, with Mumbai’s auction to be held at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.
