Leonardo and Iceye Win ESA Contracts for European Earth-Observation Studies

The European Space Agency has selected teams led by Leonardo and Iceye to conduct parallel architecture studies for a planned sovereign European Earth-observation capability. Leonardo’s study will help define the future EU Earth Observation Governmental Service, intended to support autonomous European decision-making in security and defense. The proposed system would integrate space-based sensors, ground infrastructure, data processing and services while federating national, institutional and commercial assets into a resilient end-to-end architecture. Leonardo will work with Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space, e-GEOS and other European partners to assess existing capabilities, identify gaps and compare options based on performance, responsiveness, resilience and cost.
