Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rap Legend Nas Discuss Keeping Hip-Hop's Roots in New York

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and rap legend Nas have discussed why New York City should remain hip-hop's home. The conversation began when hip-op was born in 1973 in the South Bronx and has since become a global phenomenon. Mamdan, who used to rap under names like "Young Cardamom" and "Mr. Cardamamom," stated that the city "can't be content with being the birthplace of hip-Hop -- we want it to still be the home." Nas, considered one of the greatest rappers to ever do it and a native of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, agreed, citing the music's messages about identity and upbringing.
