Energy Transfer plans to move its primary stock listing to the new Texas Stock Exchange.

Elaine Agather, Dallas region chair at JPMorgan Chase and a member of the Texas Stock Exchange’s advisory board, said she was “thrilled” by the reported Energy Transfer move and indicated that additional TXSE announcements could come as soon as next week.
A primary listing serves as a company’s trading “home base”: it influences where brokers route default orders, where market makers provide liquidity and where opening and closing auctions concentrate activity.
Energy Transfer’s move would be the largest company-to-date to shift its primary listing from New York to Texas, according to the Wall Street Journal account cited by Bloomberg Law.
Energy Transfer had not responded to a request for comment when Bloomberg Law reported on the planned listing change.
Energy Transfer, a $75 billion pipeline company, plans to move its primary stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to Texas's new stock exchange as soon as next month, according to Bloomberg Law. The Texas-based energy giant would become the first major company to make this switch, giving the fledgling Texas Stock Exchange a significant credibility boost as it competes with the NYSE and Nasdaq.
A primary listing is a company's trading headquarters. TipRanks explains that it determines where brokers send most orders, which market makers provide liquidity, and where the opening and closing auctions happen. The location influences trading flow and market activity for the stock.
Energy Transfer's move would be the largest company to shift from New York to Texas, Bloomberg Law reported. The Texas Stock Exchange launched recently and urgently needs big-name tenants to prove it can handle serious trading volume. This move could signal to other major firms that leaving the NYSE is realistic.
Elaine Agather, JPMorgan Chase's Dallas region chair and a Texas Stock Exchange board member, said she was "thrilled" by Energy Transfer's reported move. Bloomberg Law reported that officials expect additional announcements within the coming weeks, suggesting other major companies may follow Energy Transfer's lead.
Energy Transfer is based in Texas, making the listing move align with its corporate home. TipRanks noted that the switch reflects the company's local legacy. Energy Transfer has not publicly confirmed the plans, and the move still requires regulatory approval before it can proceed.
