Algonquin Barons Defeat St. Benedict Bears in Highway 17 Football Exhibition

Algonquin Barons defeated St Benedict Bears (Sudbury semi-finalists in 2025) in an exhibition senior high school football game, dubbed the 'Battle for Highway 17'. The game was a great way to prepare for the upcoming Nipissing District Athletics (NDA) football season. The Algonquin team started fast, scoring 7-0 early in the first quarter with a 40-yard punt return by Evan Smetana and a 20-yard touchdown from Barons’ quarterback Dayne Meyer. The Bears' offense managed to score 21-7, but Algonqu won 28-14. This win improves their Highway 17 rivalry record to 2-0 against the St. Benedict Bears. The next game for AlgonQuin is against the Saint Joseph Scollard Hall Bears.
